During this decade of constantly changing markets, increasing competition, and rising customer expectations, organizations know they have to change. In this environment, successful organizations are the ones that will the future while others merely react to pressures and changes. The traditional focus of strategic planning has been related to documentation, reporting, and review. Successful planning includes specific plans on where to go, how to get there, what timetables and resources to use, and what contingencies to consider. In this course, participants will learn the importance to creating a clear, concise Vision, the Values that will govern the organization's behavior, the strategy to achieve the Vision, and a Mission that serves as a rallying point for the organization. Execution is the most important factor in a successful business plan. This course begins after the Strategic Thinking ends and the Tactical Thinking begins. Creating a vision and strategy and crystallizing your mission creates a solid foundation and a directional beacon for the growth of your business. These critical steps must now be followed by developing a well thought out plan and series of processes which can and will be duplicated regularly by many. Vision without plans and action steps is merely a dream.

Covers the essential elements for successful project management. Topics include scoping projects, defining Project Management, determining who manages Projects, Agreement of the Methodology of Organizing, Planning, Controlling, Monitoring, and Evaluating the project. Forecasting future performance by historical tracking methods. Part of the course will be hands-on training utilizing the Automated Project Management tool - Microsoft Projects for Windows.

Since students will have the opportunity to apply Project Management techniques, methodologies, and tools to their work environment or to projects they are familiar with, they are encouraged to bring an example of whatever Group Work Activity or Project that is most familiar to them.

Each participant will receive a Pentium Color Notebook computer with the latest Microsoft Office Suite (Spreadsheet, Word Processing, Presentation, and Productivity software) and a fax modem. Participants will learn MSDOS, WINDOWS, and WINDOWS 95. Using this tool, participants will hone their presentation skills and learn how to use the Internet. They will be introduced to spreadsheets, graphs, and visual presentations, and the importance correct analysis plays in final results. They will learn how to use a communications modem and how to send and receive fax documents and e-mail directly from their computer.

COMPUTING FOR INCREASED MANAGERIAL EFFECTIVENESS (ADVANCED) AND MORE EFFECTIVE PRESENTATIONS (4 Weeks)

In addition to the functions covered in the introductory course, participants will learn how to communicate ideas more effectively, how to develop spread-sheets, graphs, and visual presentations, and the importance correct analysis plays in final results. Using their notebook computer, participants will hone their presentation skills through the use of Power Point presentations and practice workshops with direct feedback on their personal presentation styles. They will learn how to use a communications modem and how to fax documents directly from their computer. Additional topics include - Hardware and Software issues, productivity issues, software acquisition, installation, and maintenance. Extensive workshops will assure participant effectiveness with their new computer.
